Colombo, Oct 14 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today rejected the anticipatory bail application filed by former Minister Manusha Nanayakkara, seeking to be released on bail in the event of being arrested by the Bribery Commission.

Delivering the final page of a 15-page order, the Magistrate stated that the court was not satisfied with the reasons presented by the petitioner in claiming that the Bribery Commission was attempting to arrest him with malice and therefore, the anticipatory bail application was dismissed.

Appearing on behalf of the former Minister, counsel Asthika Devendra informed the court that his client would appear before the Bribery Commission tomorrow to make a statement.

The anticipatory bail application was filed by former Minister Nanayakkara on the grounds that the Bribery Commission was preparing to arrest him with political and personal animosity, in connection with an investigation into alleged irregularities said to have taken place during the recruitment of workers for agricultural employment in Israel.

The Magistrate had concluded the hearing of the anticipatory bail application on October 8 and reserved the order for today.

Accordingly, Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today delivered the order, rejecting the anticipatory bail application.
