Convene national level meeting: Opposition parties

Colombo, Dec. 3 (Daily Mirror) - Around 35 Opposition political parties which met former President Ranil Wickremesinghe today, urged the government to convene a national level meeting of political, religious and other civil leaders to discuss the current disaster situation.

The office of the former President said a large number of political party representatives participated in the meeting.

He is also one of the main culprit, failed to fix the Doppler Radar system which was bought from Japan, after the Tsunami affect. If it had been working the Metrological dept. would be giving the correct climate information to the SL people. We see most of the Western and Middle eastern countries they have this system.

I do not consider the type of proposed national level meeting is necessary. It wont bring any meaningful outcome. I would encourage the MPs to return to their constituents to find the type of assistance required and work towards it.

Bankrupt Ranil attempting to enter the political market taking advantage of the disaster. Ranil if your meeting with many parties was well attended highlight the decisions made for the government to know. If they have any merit Anura I am sure will implement them.

Full of bureaucracy this fella is famous for! Now we need to move things fast and implement logical and common sense solutions to the hundreds who are suffering daily after this mega disaster. These opposition Misfits are sitting in AC comfortably meetings and prolonging relief efforts. Be at the ground level and speed up relief efforts NOW! Each opposition party can take sector of the Island and support the government’s relief efforts too. End of the day, the citizens will benefit.

When you see a disaster, the natural response of any living person is to act spontaneously. Here we have 35 opposition parties who want to discuss the matter! By the way, we never realized that we have 35 opposition parties in this country.

No other country in the world has an anti-government opposition—or a group of corrupt politicians decisively rejected by the people—rallying against a government and people during a national disaster of this scale. The ulterior motives behind this are clear to everyone. Yet for a man who claims to stand for integrity like Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe to lead such disruption in a moment of national need is truly tragic. Unfortunately, Sri Lanka cannot hope to rise from the ashes while it is held hostage by such people who show no empathy.
