With the increase in the inclement weather conditions during the past few days, there has been a considerable increase in the number of dengue-positive cases in the Kandy, Kegalle, Galle and Kurunegala districts, Director of the National Dengue Control Unit Dr. Nalin Ariyaratne said.
He said 33,722 suspected cases of dengue were detected today from around the country. These patients were reported from the Western Province and the Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts.
Accordingly, 280 dengue cases were reported yesterday, which shows a considerable increase when compared with the past week, Dr. Ariyarathne said.
"A total of 59 MOH divisions have been identified as high-dengue-risk areas by the Dengue Prevention Union. 50 percent of the dengue-positive cases were reported from the Western Province," he said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
