Committee appointed to probe proposed removal of Deshabandu

Colombo, April 23 (Daily Mirror) - A high-level committee has been appointed to investigate the allegations of misconduct and abuse of power against Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, according to official sources.

The three-member committee will be chaired by Supreme Court Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, with Court of Appeal Justice Neil Iddawela and National Police Commission (NPC) Chairman Lalith Ekanayake serving as members.

The panel is expected to examine the grounds for the potential removal of IGP Tennakoon and submit its findings to the relevant authorities.

What a waste of time and resources when everything is clear as crystal that he should not and never should have been the IGP of Sri Lanka. The Constitution should provide the President to make this decision when such behaviour has disgraced the whole Police fraternity.

This is a high powered committee and any findings cannot be disregarded. All this is not necessary if he is charged for contempt of court for bringing a vehicle into court premises in Matara when the court had ordered not to bring. This case can be given priority and if convicted he will automatically me out

These committees only delay. For violating the court order in getting his car to court premises, if he is charged for contempts of court and case heard on priority basis, if convicted he will be automatically be out. Any defence that he wasn't responsible for the car to come inside court premises will have no merit as he got into the car and left knowing well the court order.
