Colombo University signs MoU with Sri Lanka Inventors Commission to boost innovation

Colombo, July 27 (Daily Mirror) - The University of Colombo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) to strengthen innovation, entrepreneurship, and the commercialization of research.

The agreement aims to enhance support for student entrepreneurs and researchers by combining the University's academic expertise with SLIC's national experience in inventions and innovation.

Under the partnership, the University's newly established Innovation & Startup Incubator will receive support in curriculum development, intellectual property advisory services, industry mentorship, and access to funding networks to help transform research into commercially viable solutions.

The MoU was signed by University of Colombo Vice Chancellor Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake and SLIC Commissioner Professor Veranja Karunaratne in the presence of representatives from both institutions.

University officials said the collaboration reflects the institution's commitment to fostering a strong innovation ecosystem that will benefit students, researchers, and Sri Lanka's broader innovation landscape.
