Chinese Buddhist delegation to Sri Lanka



A delegation of 140 Buddhist laymen and priests, including She Wu Yan, leader of Baolin Temple in China's "Fuzshou" Province, arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport last night (9).

They arrived in the country to accept the "Award of Honourary Name" conferred by the Sri Lanka Ramanya Maha Nikaya.

The Baolin Buddhist Temple is a 1,200-year-old Mahayana Zen temple.

The award ceremony is scheduled to be held on October 15 at the Ramanya Maha Nikaya headquarters in Narahenpita, Colombo.

Eight monks and 132 lay representatives were present in this Buddhist delegation.

A group of monks from the Sri Lanka Ramanya Maha Nikaya, a group of Sri Lankans and Chinese nationals living in the country and a group of officials from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau were at the arrival terminal of Katunayake Airport to welcome the delegation. (T.K.G. Kapila)
