China to donate school uniform fabric for 2027



July 16 (Daily Mirror) - The People’s Republic of China will provide a donation of school uniform fabric to Sri Lanka for the year 2027, with certificates exchanged to formalise the agreement between the two countries.

The certificate exchange ceremony was held on July 15, 2026, at the Ministry of Education premises in Isurupaya, Colombo, for the provision of school uniforms to students and student monks studying in government schools, government-aided schools and government-approved Pirivenas.

Under the programme, the Chinese government will donate 10.82 million metres of fabric to Sri Lanka to meet the uniform requirements of nearly 4.18 million students for 2027.

The agreement was confirmed through the exchange of certificates between Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong and Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Training Nalaka Kaluwewa.

The Counsellor in Charge of Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, along with senior officials of the Ministry of Education, also participated in the event.
