He’ll keep on extending until he goes home….

It looks like the Hon Minister let the time pass until Sri Lankan airlines declare it’s own grounding. If nobody is interested in buying or participating in Sri Lankan airlines, it’s matter of time.

    Andare Tuesday, 05 March 2024 02:40 PM

    KEEP EXTENDING THE DEADLINE !

    Muni Tuesday, 05 March 2024 02:42 PM

It is not the government that is absorbing- it is the damn tax payer

    Pillai Tuesday, 05 March 2024 03:01 PM

This clearly indicate how badly managed. The loss would have been reduced if timely action was taken. Bid for sale is extended sevvral times. There is something wrong in the technical evaluation committee. Politicians must be influenceing them.

    Tilak Tuesday, 05 March 2024 04:33 PM

What is the minister getting involved? Isn't it being handled by the SOE restructure unit?

Mohamed Adham Tuesday, 05 March 2024 04:44 PM

ADANI or AMBANI or TATA ??????

    Alan Tuesday, 05 March 2024 09:44 PM

no the bankrupt beggers from pakistan planning to buy the airline . i dont think the indians will touch the airline with a barge pole . Srilankan and PIA to merge to beg around the world.

Ah ah Tuesday, 05 March 2024 04:59 PM

The mismanaged corrupted and bribed airline is now saved by the peoples taxed money. That is the people ( government ) absorbed the 550 million of US dollars. The 6.9 don’t understand the maths!!!

    Uthum Tuesday, 05 March 2024 08:54 PM

The borrowing was guaranteed by the Treasury anyway, potential buyers would not want to take on the debt. Now what ever the proceeds are it could be applied against the borrowing absorbed by the Treasury.

Milpala Gonhatti Tuesday, 05 March 2024 05:11 PM

What is your paga, Mr Pagapala? Your Mr 10% has arrived - discuss with him. May be Myna can buy from stolen money!

    Mandayan Tuesday, 05 March 2024 06:05 PM

Stupid statement by the minister that the Airline will be grounded by first week of March has sent shockwaves abroad and diaspora and the holiday makers are looking to other Airlines. The effects can be seen in the dramatic drop in prices. This guy is in politics for long and should retire now!

DO NOT LOOT ALL THE MONEY FROM OUR MOTHERLAND LEAVE SOME FOR OUR CHILDREN PLEASE GO HOME

May Day Tuesday, 05 March 2024 06:34 PM

Just by looking at the current status of the airline nobody in their sane mind will invest a penny. 20 planes 4 on logs 6000 staff this is a big problem noh?

    Spartacus Tuesday, 05 March 2024 06:40 PM

No sane investor will ever come to this airline as long Rajapakse's are alive. All investors know what happened to Emirates and the arrogance and impunity of governance. Another factor, majority Sinhalese are a bone lazy race and looking for opportunities to rob and make short term wealth. They are not like Jaffna Tamils who work hard, honest and principled. These are facts hard to swallow but need to be known if this country is come out.

God knows how it happened Tuesday, 05 March 2024 06:48 PM

Going down the pallam of this airline started when JR handed over power to RP. As an ex Air Lanka, I remember how his underclass, uneducated henchmen were pushed into the company. No one talks about how the Lockheed deal served him with Rs 370 million. God knows why an empty aircraft went to Fukuoka just to bring in orchids for someone's business.

    Buddhist Tuesday, 05 March 2024 06:50 PM

Howmuch did this Minister get as bribes this time to postpone?

    Citizen2023 Tuesday, 05 March 2024 07:30 PM

Ranil should immediately change this Minister. He doesn't know what he talks. Appoint an young person whether another able politician or an well educated from the public so that the situation at SL Airline can be discussed fruitfully with participation of the Union as well as the senior Pilots. Because the govt is at fault for bringing this beautiful country to collapse, the citizens of this country are suffering. Arrest the ppl who are responsible n robbed the coffers should be made liable to settle the debts of the Airline.

    a320 Tuesday, 05 March 2024 07:48 PM

If things going to continue like this.. Sooner the airline will have to file for bankruptcy. This has now become too much of a burden for the country's economy....

    Citizens Tuesday, 05 March 2024 07:51 PM

    Government absorbing losses???

    Amaree Tuesday, 05 March 2024 08:07 PM

Potential Investors are very cautious on their investments in the airline for MANY REASONS. 1) this is the election year and if the same MR clan comes to office 2) inefficient staff 3) 6000 staff too much etc.

Tissa Fernando Tuesday, 05 March 2024 08:27 PM

They wanted to create a situation that no one wants to bid for this Air Line, that opens up the opportunity for some Indians to buy it at the lowest value.

    Sunil Tuesday, 05 March 2024 08:32 PM

Reappoint Shirnthi Rajapaksha's educated brother the ex-chaieman. He will do the needfull with Kaputa

Ranjith Perera Tuesday, 05 March 2024 09:29 PM

Close the Damm Airline ! If the Rajapakse's want to run it give it to them. After all they ran it to the ground

    Gabriella Tuesday, 05 March 2024 09:36 PM

Luckily Basil Rajapaksa has returned. His advice would be most welcome.

    ACA Wednesday, 06 March 2024 12:25 AM

Do you really believe this mad man can be a minister?

    Tourist Wednesday, 06 March 2024 01:44 AM

This is an airline that went to bed with numerous well known carriers and could have taken off successfully. However, as with anything political interference and corruption at all levels has brought it to its death-bed. One has to feel sorry for the flight crew and other ancillary staff. The flight crew in particular were one of the best I have witnessed after flying a lot of other carriers.

I'm not interested of buying some scrap metals.

    Jude Wednesday, 06 March 2024 02:29 AM

All successive governments used SriLankan airlines like Uber taxi to roam globally on public dime.

    Aravindhan G Wednesday, 06 March 2024 02:29 AM

This would have been avoided, if would have maintained the partnership with Emirates

    Jude Wednesday, 06 March 2024 05:01 AM

Airline business very hard to survive. All major American airlines have gone through bankruptcy at least once. You got to partner with a solid Alley to survive in the cut-throat airline business.

    Repurcussion Wednesday, 06 March 2024 06:46 AM

    Set up a third party

    Rishan Wednesday, 06 March 2024 06:47 AM

Firstly minister must resign from his transport ministry post and hand over to a capable person. Dr. Harsha or Eran would be good choice. They should be able to work with Ashok Pathirage and identify the pain points , processes improvement and cost cutting initiatives that need to implement rather than asking for bids to sell....

    Ram Wednesday, 06 March 2024 06:59 AM

If Sri Lankan is removed from Siripala many airlines very likely to show an interest

$10 million conveniently dumped on public Wednesday, 06 March 2024 07:05 AM

You have convinced the cabinet to absorb the $.10 million with public money. Do you expect to lure investors with a lesser liability? Nobody will buy it even for scrap iron! What have you done to recover the outstanding debts?

    Dinesh Wednesday, 06 March 2024 07:50 AM

This is what happens when you fly kaputas for FREE

    Sambo Wednesday, 06 March 2024 08:28 AM

Who in the world will want to get involved in a failed and debt burdened airline. Here also what has the president done most of the debts has been taken over by the government which means the public will have to pay. The money received will be shared among the politicians.

Raj soma Wednesday, 06 March 2024 09:54 AM

SL can change names from Airlanka to Srilankan air but the unqualified People running it is the main issue..All are Political appointees who have no knowledge of the industry fill the pockets.. Take any MP or Political appointee before they come to seat their wealth and when they leave...OMG, even they have to hide the Money away from Srilanka... 77 yrs this is what's happening . No questions asked by the Masses... They just keep voting . The country is now half sold to China , India ,Ukrainians, Israel and Russia... Soon the airlines to India..This is what is brewing under the carpet.. The airports already given and now the airlines..

    Ranil Wednesday, 06 March 2024 10:07 AM

Aircraft scrap metal business must booming.

Kamala Gamage Wednesday, 06 March 2024 10:11 AM

He will sell to the lowest bidder, as long as his commission percentage is higher. Maybe he has someone already lined up to suit his commission price. What a country, Sri Lanka will never prosper as long as these old farts in parliament.

Piyasera Manussaya Wednesday, 06 March 2024 10:56 AM

This Minister says Emirates made Profits during the ten years they controlled UL . If so this Minister must say why no dividend/profit was declared other than for the 1st year without uttering untruths.

Sleepy Pala Thursday, 07 March 2024 05:32 PM
