Cabinet nod to release water from Samanala-Weva for agricultural purposes

Cabinet approval was granted to release the required amount of water from the Samanala-Weva reservoir for agricultural purposes, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.

He said the decision was taken while finding alternative solutions for the national power requirement.

Based on the above, the relevant authorities have been informed to release water for agricultural purposes.(Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Any way 2/3rd the Agricultural Water Requirement annually is met by the LEAK in the Dam (God’s own provision to farmers and Agriculture) and the IRV is only helps out with the balance 1/3rd requirement!!!??? That wouldn’t make much of a ‘DENT’ in Generation, considering the Importance of the NEED!!!??? Even if it becomes 50% or equal amount as the LEAK, it's Insignificant!!!??? Agriculture needs must be prioritised over Fuel cost for generation and Profit!!!?? Else it would be ‘NO BRAINER’!!!???

Local politics is ruining the nations long term. The release of the water is due to some farmers storming the Minister Kanchana Wijesekera house in Matara. The Minister is most chummy with Namal, and that is also the reason Namal never pay his wedding electricity bill.
