CPC trade unions to engage in protests tomorrow

Trade Unions of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) affiliated to all political parties are scheduled to engage in a protest march tomorrow against the proposed reforms of the CPC.

Meanwhile, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that CPC reforms are a must and that he will continue to work to implement it.

He said he had met all Trade Unions leaders to discuss the proposed reforms and conveyed its importance.

Here we go again. These trade unions do not want their overtime, over staffing and massive salary bills cut. This is biggest problem and stupidity of SL workers. The country is in a mess due to these practices going on for 74 years. Without significant reforms of these massive loss making institutions and on huge number of public servants, the country is doomed. IMF will say good bye.

If we are to progress as a nation, we have to get rid of not only theiving politicians, but also their siblings, the corrupt unions, who have been blocking every progressive steps in the past on behalf of politicians who strive for power. One small example is 1990 ambulance service.

Would CPC survive for so long as a loss making entity, if it was a private organization? Public money was wasted to keep it afloat, - money that could have been utilized to take the country forward. Look for the politicians who encourage the unions to defy Govt. positive instructions.

It might be cheaper for the country to shut the refinery altogether and import hydrocarbons. The refinery has become a liability without any benefit to the country. Once the refinery totally shut down the staff will go off to mid-east and send dollar home.

CPC is one of the most corrupted organizations in the country! Indeed reforms are a must. Good move! Let them go on strike; that's all that they are capable of doing. Treat them as "vacated post" and hire new employees as there are so many out there who have lost their jobs recently and are willing to take any job that is offered.

These Union never wants people to work. These unions are the prime culprits behind failed CPC management. All current managers secured their position under the guise that they have politically victimized one another. they are merely qualified. the attempt to recruit Management trainees with high caliber was never materialized even after conducting the exam 4 times and spending millions. the reason behind this was union members will lose their positions. I have a personal experience there.

Go ahead minister and the whole country is behind you. You also have a president who will fully back you. These must be done. You are a young, strong and uncorrupted politician, so you don't have stogies unlike all the other politicians who have been robbing for so many years.
