COPE too hunting for opposition members?



Colombo, May 25 (Daily Mirror) - The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has revealed details of land fraud that allegedly took place within the National Housing Development Authority.

COPE Chairman, Member of Parliament Dr. Nishantha Samaraweera, stated that the irregularities include the operation of a preschool at a section of the Maligawatte housing complex for several years since 1999 at a rate below the officially assessed value.

Samaraweera further stated that the facts uncovered regarding the alleged fraud will be referred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

It was also revealed that the COPE was currently probing placements of persons and on funds used for publicity by the ministry of Finance from. 2015 to 2019. Some of the state officers have been offered the opinion that publicity has paved the way for more foreign assistance for housing schemes for low income groups.
