Colombo, March 21 (Daily Mirror) - The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been asked to conduct a probe against former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa on two land deals, Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe told Parliament today.
Justifying his action of alleged forced entry into a temple in Imbulgoda and Kelaniya, the Deputy Minister said the land concerned does not belong to a temple.
“The land is owned by Mahinda Rajapaksa Spiritual Foundation. This land has been purchased for a price of Rs. 500,000 and has been sold for Rs.10 million. The owner of the land is one Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa of Carlton House Tangalle. Another land at Ihala Imbulgoda has been sold for Rs. 12 million after purchasing it for Rs. 1 million," the Deputy Minister said.
“I have requested the CID to conduct a probe into these land deals,” he added.
Also he said the media has falsely reported about the incident on his visit to a land in Kelaniya.

"Mahinda Rajapaksa Spiritual Foundation" is interesting. Wonder what spirituality it actually promotes?

Unlike in Pina's time, hope the CID will not go to her house, but ask her to come to the CID office to give a statement. "Mahinda Rajapaksa Spiritual Foundation". What more foundations, charity funds, like this will we hear?

If there is enough evidence to support the claim, pls make a formal request to investigate the land deal. We all know she is behind a number of corruption cases. Proving them may be a challenge. The entire family has been living in public account and big money made in corrupted deals, including this lady.

WE THE PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE PATIENCE, NO AMOUNT OF NEGATIVE COMMENTS BY ANURA/NPP SUPPORTERS IS HELPFUL. Friday, 21 March 2025 02:16 PM
CORRECT NIHAL, THE EVIDENCE WE SEE HERE IN THE PURCHASE PRICE AGAINST THE SELLING PRICE. IT CLEARLY INDICATES THIS IS A WAY/METHOD OF LAUNDERING ILLGOTTEN MONEY. WHAT MORE!!! NOW TO QUESTION DOWN THE LINE QUESTIONING PRESIOUS LAND OWNERS TO ARRIVE AS TO HOW THE LAND CAME TO BE IN THE RAJAPASKE'S, PROBABLY PASSED/SOLD TO FAMILY/EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS AND OR STOOGES AND THEN BOUGHT BACK!!

REZA, THE GOVT IS NOT ONE PERSON THERE ARE SEVERAL MINISTERS, MEMBERS AND THEIR STAFF TO WORK ON THE COUNTLESS ISSUES THAT COME UP FROM TIME TO TIME. SAD TO SAY SOME IN THIS SPACE HAVE A POOR IDEA OF WHAT THE PRESIDENT AND HIS GOVT ARE CAPABLE OF, SO FOR THOSE WHO FEEL CONFUSED AND DISGRUNTLED STAY THE COURSE, IF YOU THINK THE PREVIOUS GOVT WHO MADE LIFE HELL FOR THE MAJORITY WHO SUFFERED LIKE NO OTHER TIME IN OUR HISTORY, GO AHEAD AND VOTE FOR THEM IN 2025 BUT UNTIL THEN HAVE PATIENCE AND TRUST THE PRESIDENT, HIS GOVT AND ADVISORS.

It may appear that the government is going after the King Crooks of this country. Remember we are in this plight because of these crooks. It is also a warning for other's not to follow the path of these crooks. Yes, the government also should look at the present good of the economy and the people- no doubt. Perhaps they are doing their best under trying circumstances.

Very true. Yes what Deputy Minister Jayasinghe says is 100% correct. Shiranthi Rajapakshe had these two illegal deals and if you check all her personal bank accounts you will find it.

G.M. Sunil Serasinghe (Attorney-at-Law) Friday, 21 March 2025 01:40 PM
Hon. Deputy Minister, at least now take action against Rajapakshe family before it is too late. If the Government can pull out their robbed money, it is enough to feed so many poor children. Shiranthi is next to Mahinda on looting, believe me.

Best thing is to investigate, take prompt action and check her bank accounts and freeze it. For sure, she may have more than 100-125 millions. I know the in and outs of Rajapakshe family as I my cousin is a close associate of Mahinda.

KEEP PRAYING THE MAJORITY WHO VOTED THIS GOVT IN AND HAVE FAITH AND TRUST IN THE PRESIDENT/NPP AND THEIR ADVISORS. Friday, 21 March 2025 02:31 PM
GOVT WILL NOT ONLY HAVE TO CHECK MR'S WIFE, BUT FAMILY AND EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS AND CLOSE ASSOCIATES. MONEY LAUNDERING IS NO EASY DEAL TO TRACE, IT MOVES FROM ONE TO ANOTHER LIKE WILD FIRE AND ENDS UP IN THE HANDS OF SOMEONE WHO IS A TOTAL STRANGER TO THEM, BUT IS BEING USED AND IS WELL AWARE OF THE FACT. SO LET THE GOVT AND THOSE COMMISSIONED TO INVESTIGATE DO THE JOB ENTRUSTED TO THEM.

All these probes leads to nothing it is completely pointless and a waste of time and money...No convictions no prisons sentence , this is just a way making the Rajapaksa's look accountable for all the crimes they have committed, all of the billions of SL rupees they have stolen but the Rajapaksa's will never face any kind of real justice... The billions of rupees they stolen should be handed back to the SL people to help improve the poor people of the country..

Few questions arise on these trasactions. She must show how she raised the money to purchase them and if she paid Capital Gains Tax. Rajapaksa Spiritual foundation must show how the foundation raised the money and if it paid capital gains and if the sale money is in the foundation account, if not where the money went. This is an easy investigation to the CID

Prices Friday, 21 March 2025 02:21 PM
What is the purchase date and sold date? Prices in Gampaha district and of course kelaniya increased like crazy with development and growth within 20 or 15 years with the devaluation of the rupee too. That's something to consider. Anyone who bought in these areas just outside colombo really hit the jackpot.

While asserting that any wrongdoers whoever they may be charged in a court of law and if found guilty punish them to the maximum. But this daily some comrade bringing out some dirt is not going to help the country. This must be one from the famous stack of 400 files. There is no economic direction no strategic plan just floating around. Why not create a separate ministry of "Investigation of past politicians misdeeds" appoint a comrade and give him the mandate to dig the dirt, leaving the rest of the comrade ministers to do their assigned jobs....... Note..... ADB has warned!!!!!!!!!!

MR must have deposited some into a RAJAPASKE FAMILY TRUST FUND, govt may need to get international assistance to find out if the crooks have opened any family trust funds abroad and or at home, on the disguise of community service to the poor.

People put NPP in power to probe these properly and bring them in front of justice for real. But failure to do so or trying to hoodwink the public like the last administration did would bring about their downfall faster than the mighty Rajapakse empire themselves.

Mark my words—this will be yet another guaranteed defeat for the government. There is no one in this administration with the guts or skills to prosecute Mahinda, Gota, Basil, Namal, Yoshitha, Ranil, their cronies, or even Shiranthi. The government may have a decent group of people, but that doesn’t make them effective leaders. They are naïve, lack creativity, and are afraid. From time to time, they stir up these topics to create the illusion of taking action—give it a few weeks, and this topic will also be buried in the annals of history, just like everything else. This is the most powerful government in terms of the mandate given by the people, yet the weakest in Sri Lanka’s history when it comes to delivering results. A toothless government led by a lackluster group.

BANANA REPUBLIC WITH SOME BANANA Friday, 21 March 2025 08:09 PM
Banana Republic, how many probes but no punishments. Still show off that they are always committed for justice, never prevails. Former First Lady's man's frauds were gigantic, but the govt. got no traces or clues to arrest him and question, going after the woman now. What a joke? True love current first Lady or the part time lover who entitled for the pension paid by the tax payers one day, is incredibly invisible.

Dear Deputy Minister, don't waste our time. You guys cant and will not do a thing about this. Money Laundering processes by the SLPP related parties are way beyond the imagination and control of the NPP govt. Four months into the Job have you guys arrested or charged even one really big corrupt individual ? No. Big talk and that's about it.

Agree with vipin B. NPP just blow up findings but no action. When they are questioned, they claim it is duty of the Police. So much was said about evicting MR n family from their present house, but almost 4 months hv passed but no result. What MR wants is a letter from the govt requesting him to leave. But the govt is now silent as they are aware that evicting MR will be subject to legal jmplication they hv oi face. Hence, they are now silent. However, they claim they hv efficient people to handle any type of matters. Remember, barking dog will not bite.
