CEB technician dies while on field duty in Kurunegala

Colombo, Dec. 4 (Daily Mirror) - A 41-year-old line technician of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), Anuruddha Kumara, died on Wednesday while carrying out restoration work in the Kurunegala area.

The incident occurred around 12.45 p.m. along the Bowatta–Weerapokuna route while he was attending to a damaged low-voltage line.

He reportedly received an electric shock and was seriously injured during the repair work.

He was rushed to the Weerapokuna Base Hospital and later transferred to the Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital. Despite efforts by medical teams, he passed away approximately an hour after admission.

Kumara, who began his career in 2007 as a temporary linesman in Dambulla, became a permanent employee in 2017 after a decade of service. He later served at the Ukuwela substation and was most recently attached to the Hettipola Power Station. The CEB said he had performed his duties with commitment and distinction.
