CEB profit plunges to Rs. 3.58 billion in Q3 2025

Colombo, Nov. 18 (Daily Mirror) - The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has reported a significant drop in its financial performance, with profits for the third quarter of 2025 falling sharply to Rs. 3.58 billion, according to its latest financial statements.

This marks an 85% decline compared to the Rs. 24.58 billion profit recorded during the same quarter last year. The figure also reflects a 32.5% drop from the Rs. 5.31 billion profit earned in the second quarter of 2025.

Overall, the CEB has posted a net loss of Rs. 9.58 billion for the period from January to September 2025. This represents a 107% downturn compared to the substantial profit of Rs. 143.79 billion recorded during the corresponding period in 2024.

The CEB attributed the crisis primarily to the heavy loss of Rs. 18.47 billion incurred in the first quarter of this year, which has significantly impacted the utility’s financial stability.
