Colombo, March 30 (Daily Mirror) - Strict disciplinary action has been taken against the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Colombo Crimes Division over allegations that he had hosted a birthday celebration for Ishara Sewwandi, the prime suspect in the murder of underworld figure Ganemulla Sanjeewa.
Police Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler said that, as public servants representing the executive branch, police officers must uphold the highest professional and ethical standards.
“There should be no association between police officers and criminals. A specific investigation has been launched by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) under the direction of the DIG (Colombo) into the incident involving the OIC,” he said.
ASP Wootler said that strict disciplinary measures are being implemented to safeguard the integrity and honuor of the police service.
