Bus falls down precipice, one killed, 30 injured

An elderly woman was killed and 30 others were injured when a passenger bus fell into a precipice in the Ulpotha area of Meegahakivula, Badulla, this morning, the police said.

The bus, packed with passengers, overturned about 40 feet down a cliff. The police also stated that the injured individuals have been taken to Meegahakivula Hospital, with eight people in critical condition being transferred to Badulla General Hospital.

Far away villages people tend to meet with such accidents , mostly in the hill country ..Have the competent drivers all gone away to earn the valuable dollars so the country make do with drivers with no training in driving such vehicles? Are these buses maintained for road worthiness ? My father standing by the road was injured by a runaway bus with faulty brakes and that was long time ago .No one seem to care ..and its buses go off the roads repeatedly causing death , physical and mental harm to those who survived .
