A 27-year-old woman, a UK citizen, who was in Sri Lanka on an invitation from a young man whom she had befriended through Facebook, was found dead after she had fallen from the 13th floor of an apartment at Alwis Avenue in Mount Lavinia yesterday.
Mount Lavinia Police commenced the investigations into the incident to determine whether it was a suicide, an accident or a murder.
She had reportedly arrived in Sri Lanka on the 8th of March to meet her boyfriend, a 29-year-old law student residing in Wellawatte.
Later, the two had been living together in the particular apartment complex. It was revealed that the Sri Lankan man who was studying in Switzerland had also come to Sri Lanka last year.
Initial investigations have revealed that the two had developed a love relationship through Facebook.
Police said the girl was about to return to England early Sunday morning (10).
Police have taken her boyfriend into custody for questioning and he had told the police that there was a minor argument over religion between the two of them on Friday night.
He has also told police that he had consumed several cans of beer on Friday afternoon and gone to sleep and later he had found her body during the search as there had been no response from his girlfriend.
Police said the post-mortem examination will be held today (10) and that the embassy had also been informed.(DSB)

Looks that there is more to this incident that meets the eye. If the guy was studying in Switzerland strange he didn't ask the girl to come over to Switzerland, why meet in Sri Lanka and or why didn't he go over to the UK. Why and how did the two move into a apartment on a floor that high, if the girl was worried about his religion or he with about hers, surely this discussion would have been discussed prior to her traveling to Sri Lanka. I hope the inquiry bring her family on the scene, they may know something that will shed light on this case. Also did she meet with his parents and family, what was the communications between the two of them on facebook, emails and or phones? these should be recovered and will help with the investigation into her unfortunate sudden death. Again religion is brought into cause disruption, no one would simply jump out from 13th floor because of a disagreement about religion.

Mr Karalasingam Sivalingam is absolutely right! In Britain, people don’t jump out from buildings or windows just because their boyfriend/spouse has left them! Hence it has to something else! Adolescents have boyfriends/girlfriends from the age of 12/13 or even younger! They go through this cycle many times! It’s not common practice to jump out of windows and buildings because the boyfriend has dumped his girlfriend or vice versa! I can only see Karalasingam Sivalingam and Maran with some logical, common sense! Anything that has common sense is very diffIcily for many to accept!

Wow, dim comments. The question is if it was an accident (drunk boyfriend still possible, he could have pushed her accidentally) or was it intentional. How drunk was she? Is there cctv? Any signs on her body or him of struggle or fight? You can tell in what position a person fell based on the type of injuries and angle of fall. There are many things to investigate. But will the police do?
