Bodies of two schoolchildren washed ashore in Kokkuvil

The bodies of two schoolchildren were washed ashore on the Kokkuvil beach in the Kokuvil police division this afternoon.

Police said the bodies were identified as those of two 16-year-old schoolchildren of Iruthayapuram and Karuwappankeni.

Initial investigations revealed that the two children had drowned while they were bathing in the sea along the Kokkuvil beach last evening.

Kokkovil police are investigating.

Poor health and safety measures in Sri Lanka...How many more children we are going to lose like this ? Accidents; flood; drawing; burning and what more ? Where all those professional health care workers ? They are happy to send salary increase but do not work for money they get ? Poor government performance and government doesn't care about deaths like this

What can the govt servants do to stop children from coming harms way? Tie them with a rope! Clearly the parents need to look after their children and be aware of where they go. For instance, a 16 year old girl goes with a boy and checks into a hotel room- is the police supposed to question each and every teenager about where they are going and keep a guard post at every lodge etc? Don’t post daft comments.

First parents should take care of their children rather than commenting others. Children nowadays never listens advice of elders and meet with such mishaps
