Beat forest officer remanded over Rs. 10,000 bribe

Colombo, Dec. 5 (Daily Mirror) - A beat forest officer suspected of accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 to issue a permit related to cutting timber was today remanded till December 12 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.

The suspect was produced before court by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. 

He is a beat forest officer attached to the Dehiattakandiya Forest Office.

Investigating officers informed court that the complainant had submitted an application to obtain a permit for cutting timber and the suspect had issued the related inspection report and agreed to provide the permit after accepting Rs. 5,000 per permit and Rs. 10,000 in total for two permits as a bribe. 

They further stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

After considering the facts presented, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded till December 12.
