Matara, April 03 (Daily Mirror) - Matara Magistrate, Aruna Indrajith Buddhadasa, rejected the bail application for Deshabandu Tennakoon, ordering his continued remand till April 10.
Matara Magistrate, Aruna Indrajith Buddhadasa, rejected the bail application for Deshabandu Tennakoon, ordering his continued remand till April 10.
The decision was made following submissions by Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peeris, who argued that Tennakoon had previously misled investigators regarding his whereabouts.
Tennakoon, the primary suspect in the Weligama shooting investigation, was accused of deliberately evading law enforcement for nearly 20 days. While he claimed to have been hiding in a residence in the Giritale area, the prosecution asserted that this statement was entirely false.
Additional Solicitor General Deelipa Peeris pointed out that Tennakoon had repeatedly misled investigators with false statements, obstructing the investigations. Highlighting concerns that releasing him on bail could hinder ongoing inquiries, the prosecution urged the court to deny the application.
Considering these arguments, the Magistrate ruled against granting bail.
