BIA expands self check-in facilities to enhance passenger experience

Colombo, Oct. 23 (Daily Mirror) - Passengers departing from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) can now enjoy an improved and more flexible check-in experience, with the airport extending self-service facilities to streamline pre-departure procedures.

The Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL), in collaboration with SriLankan Airlines’ Ground Handling Division, has introduced an upgraded self check-in system allowing passengers to complete their own check-in and baggage drop activities.

Deepal Pallegangoda, Airport Chief of SriLankan Airlines Ground Handling, said passengers are now permitted to arrive at the airport up to four hours before their scheduled departure to carry out self check-in activities at their own pace.

“This initiative aims to enhance the overall travel experience by reducing queues and ensuring smoother passenger flow through the terminal,” Pallegangoda said.

Initially, eight self check-in machines were installed at BIA’s check-in area, but that number has now been increased to 20 to accommodate more passengers simultaneously.

Pallegangoda also advised travelers to complete their self check-in process at least one hour before boarding, within the allotted four-hour window.
