Referring to the incident where the owner of Al Obaidani apparel factory at Katana was allegedly assaulted by an unidentified group, the Board of Investment (BOI) said necessary arrangements are being made to provide an alternative site for the company to continue its operations uninterruptedly.

In a media release, the BOI condemned the recent incident, adding that it is closely working with the management of the factory for the continuity of operations in Sri Lanka despite the company having suspended its operations temporarily.

"From the time of the incident, active communication has been established with respective law enforcement agencies to ensure the security and well-being of the Omani investors and factory premises. An impartial investigation is underway to inquire into the incident and action will be taken based on the findings," it added.

The Omani investor and security officer were physically assaulted by a group of unidentified individuals on 30 March. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

A very costly way to resolve an issue of lawlessness and crime. Maybe to avoid punishment to those responsible because they are political stooges.

All those politicians, government officials and deal makers who have been soliciting commissions and/or under the table unofficial payments to expedite approvals for FDI (Foreign Direct Investments) must make a resolution for themselves that they will refrain from discouraging investors by seeking bribes for at least the next 3 years. If all Sri Lankans dont do their part and be self disciplined the country will not recover from the mess we are in. Politicians take bribes because citizens give the bribe.

Once again, instead of punishing the offenders, Ranil and Co. wastes Tax payer money to identify alternate site. Not even thinking that the employees of the previous location, would now be left high and dry. What a great solution BOI .... Bravo.
