Colombo, Dec. 3 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa today urged the Speaker to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee to investigate into the allegations of the failure to prevent the devastation caused by the adverse weather in the country.

The MP told Parliament that certain people accuse the government of failing to prevent the devastation while the government accuses the officials of failing to prevent it.

"There are two opinions now. Certain factions accuse the government of failing to act in advance. The government accuses the officials of failing to prevent it. A Deputy Minister was seen trying to pass the buck to the officials. We urge the Speaker to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee to conduct a transparent investigation to probe what went wrong," he said.

The Govt. should have have purchased at least one thousand large umbrellas and placed one thousand strong body builders at each up-country roadways. What is wrong with these people ? Trying to make politics out of natural disasters? What kind of people are these ? Instead of helping the government to give relief and support of people? This has been happening for more than 40 years and nobody stood against these activities.. previous governments have done nothing so it about time every body gets together ensure the environment is protected. How can one prevent a devastation by a natural Disaster? The previous government couldn't prevent the easter attack even with prior warnings. Is he the guy who is harboring hopes to become a future president? Does he know what he is talking? I think this is a good idea to ensure these issues can be managed in the future. These select commitiees take time to work through so will not take resources away from recovery. But we need to stop people not acting untill they are 100% information. When consequences are very bad they need to act early. Multi party working group is the only way to stop political attacks.
