Anuradhapura Prison inmates relocated due to flooding

The Prisons Department said that all inmates at Anuradhapura Prison have been transferred to a temporary detention center at a local school and to Polonnaruwa Prison following severe flooding.

They said that the transfers were carried out safely. 

The Commissioner General of Prisons has also instructed officers unable to reach their workplaces due to the disaster to report to the nearest prison.

He further stated that the decision was made as a precautionary measure, given that security operations in prisons have been disrupted by the current adverse conditions.
