Colombo, June 5 (Daily Mirror) - Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando is scheduled to leave Sri Lanka on June 7 to attend the 114th Annual Conference of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland.
The conference, which commenced on June 1, will continue until June 12 under the theme “Advancing Social Justice and Promoting Decent Work”.
Representatives of governments, employers and workers from 187 ILO member states are participating in the annual gathering, which serves as a key platform for discussing global labour issues and shaping international labour standards.
Key topics on the agenda include challenges faced by workers in the digital economy, strengthening tripartite cooperation among governments, employers and trade unions, promoting gender equality in the workplace, enhancing social dialogue, and ensuring fair working conditions. The conference is also expected to deliberate on several policy matters affecting the global labour sector and make important decisions in this regard.
The opening session of the conference was attended by Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Labour S.M. Piyatissa, and Commissioner General of Labour Nadeeka Wataliyedda, together with a delegation comprising labour officials, trade union representatives and members of the Employers’ Federation.
