Anawilundawa railway sub-station to reopen after temporary closure

Colombo, July 16 (Daily Mirror) - The closed Anawilundawa Railway Sub-Station will be reopened to the public with the appointment of a relief station master, the Railway Station Masters’ Association said.

The Railway Department had recently decided to temporarily close the station following the resignation of the Sub-Station Master who was serving at Anawilundawa.

However, the department has now taken steps to resume passenger services by assigning a relief station master to the station.

Meanwhile, arrangements have also been made to restore services at the Akurala and Andadola Railway Sub-Stations, which have remained closed for several months. Relief station masters will be deployed to provide the required services to the public today or tomorrow.

Association's General Secretary Kasun Chamara Jayasekara said a gazette notification was issued on August 15, 2025, to recruit new Sub-Station Masters for 25 sub-stations, but the recruitment process has still not been completed.

He alleged that due to the inefficiency of the top management, railway station masters currently on duty have had to be deployed to cover vacancies at a higher cost.
