All divisional secretaries summoned to Colombo for high-level meeting

Colombo, Nov. 22 (Daily Mirror) - All Divisional Secretaries islandwide have been summoned to Colombo today (22) for a special high-level discussion, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

The meeting, scheduled to be held at the Main Hall of Temple Trees, will focus on briefing officials on the Government’s development plans for 2026 and the ‘Praja Shakthi’ national programme — an initiative aimed at eliminating rural poverty and strengthening community-level development.

The discussion will take place under the patronage of Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, the PMD added.

More than all this, we the citizens who voted for this government request some basic before this kind of development. We notice very poor conduct of the Police towards maintaining traffic flow. It has become a nightmare to travel or drive from one location to another virtually anytime of the day including Saturdays and Sundays. Maintenance of public roads, lights and other such services is non existent. Services from government departments has gone back to the era of lethargy and corruption. For example, the Identity Card Office on the 10th Floor of the Immigration Department is a hive of corruption where it takes 3h to attest an original identity card issued by this same establishment which can be done in 10m with the correct approach. These need to be eliminated fast and sure with no time lost because the NPP government is now past 1y of governance.

Most of Divisional secretary offices are over crowded and not available when we need some important matters to be done. They are too busy not answering the phone or not reported to work. It takes months even years to move from one table to another. Sometimes the file is lost or misplaced. Very frequently we need to send the same document over and over because of neglect. Top of everything, they get transferred from one position to another and the new personnel is clueless with the current issue. Very frustrating whenever we need to get anything done. The gramasevekes are no better.
