Disturbing statistics released by the Police Children and Women's Bureau revealed a shocking increase in child rape cases in the month of October.
According to the report, a total of 131 girls below the age of 16 fell victim to sexual assaults during this period.
During a media conference, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Police Children's and Women's Bureau, Renuka Jayasundara, provided further details on the matter.
She expressed deep concern over the 131 reported cases and revealed that, even more distressingly, 10 of the victims are currently pregnant.
In September, State Minister of Women and Child Affairs, Geetha Kumarasinghe, disclosed that within that month alone, 168 girls under the age of 16 had experienced sexual abuse while 22 of these cases resulted in child pregnancies, further emphasizing the urgent need for effective measures to address this grave issue.
The rising number of child rape cases is a deeply concerning trend that demands immediate attention from the authorities, community leaders and society as a whole.

These are the important issues that legislators in Parliament should discuss, debate, pass laws and take action to stop. They are wasting time on cricket accusing all and sundry and in the process bringing the judiciary to disrepute when the future of the younger generation is at stake. These girls will be mothers some day and they will carry that stigma for the rest of their lives. Their children born out of wedlock may even end up being a burden to society. This is a social problem increasing day by day while the Parliament is shouting hoarse over cricket! What a nation!

When there is no law and order in the country, these things happen! The hearing of a rape case can go on for man years!! So how can the rapist get any punishment??? Instead, he's enjoying life!!

Sri-Lanka has become a LAWLESS STATE! Child rape and molestations are committed by sickos. Those committed these crimes need to be punished by, naming and shaming and life time prison term. RW and SLPP are infighting for the cabinet posts and President elections. How can we pass laws when the Majority of the MP's are "IL-LITERATES, CROOKS and CRIMINALS"! What has happened to our country? Is there anything that we can be proud of?

The complete breakdown of the las and order of the country is very apparent and has been so for the last several years. The victims have ,in th main, been women and children. there are many perpetrators and some have been given refuge from the law. Immagine the trauma and the mental destruction and hatred welling in their minds against life in general and society. find them and burn them, those responsible.

I find it very disturbing, that many of the commenters say that child abuse is terrible - and it is. And what about the thousands of cases where women are raped - is that not important? To me this sounds like the rape of women is well accepted in this society and no problem at all, business as usual.
