Air Force training aircraft crashes killing two officers

A training aircraft of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) has crashed inside the SLAF Academy in China Bay a few minutes after the take-off this morning, killing the pilot and an officer, the SLAF said.

Air Force Spokesman Captain Dushan Wijesinghe said the aircraft took off at 11.25 am this morning and crashed at 11.27 am leaving both the pilot and the officer who were aboard dead.

Meanwhile, Air Force Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa has appointed a special committee to further inquire into the incident.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya and Amadoru Amarajeewa)

If I remember correctly.! There was a similar incident a few years back . Technical center should check these aircrafts prior to take off. May their souls rest in peace

We are failing in every sectors and no process in place to best practice approach and shared among each other. This is applicable in all sectors. Everyone taking a civil service approach ie just attend work just to cover the hours but no focus on improvement, productivity, safety, quality of output, etc. I think the leadership is missing in every aspects

Sad day for all Sri Lankans. My Sympathies to the family members of the deceased officers. If it is a substandard aircraft imported under a deal by any past government the politicians and the Air force officers who were instrumental in the import are answerable

Condolences for the 2 families of the 2 Pilot officers who lost their lives. Since the wreckage is intact the investigating officers will give the reasons for the Crash. A few years ago 2 Trainer aircraft belonging to the same Private comapny crashed on the Beaches in Mt.Lavinia and near Kalutara, But even before the CivilAviation Authorities could get to the spots the owners cleared the site and removed all debris without leaving even a bolt. How come the owners went off free even thogh there were no fatalities. May be it was done to claim compensation.

Terrible to see the deaths of two innocent well paid military people. Reminds about how Sri Lankan as pilots are prone to have more accidents and cause deaths. Better get foreign passport holders, as they train in better equipment and have higher standards.
