Advisory for heavy rain warning issued for eight districts

Advisory for heavy rains above 100 mm in was issued for the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Meteorology Department said.

While issuing a advisory weather forecast the department said due to the active South West monsoon conditions over the island, there is a possibility of the prevailing showery condition enhancing in tbe south-western part of the Island.

Accordingly, high risk level (Red) warning was issued for eight districts including Gampaha, Kegalle, Colombo, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle, Matara and Hambanthota.

Therefore, the public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
