Colombo, Jan 13 (Daily Mirror) - Acting IGP Deshabandu Thennakoon has handed over a comprehensive list of 42,248 suspects involved in crimes across the entire island to the Officers-in-charge of crimes of all the police stations, the Public Security Ministry said.
They said this list comprises 35,505 individuals with open warrants, 4,258 wanted suspects identified through fingerprints, and 2,485 individuals wanted for crimes committed in the country over the last two years.
The IGP has instructed division officers, district officers in charge, Head Quarters Inspectors (HQIs), and crime OICs of all police stations to actively participate in the ongoing 'Yukthiya' operation from tomorrow (14).
Additionally, the IGP has issued orders to all Crimes OICs to deploy police officers round-the-clock with the aim of apprehending the wanted suspects within the next month.
The Ministry said the intensified efforts will have a robust impact on reducing criminal activities across the island in addition to the ongoing 'Yukthiya' operation targeting individuals associated with drugs and the underworld.

This kind of massive and intense police operation to liquidate ALL criminals and gangsters has NEVER happened in Sri Lanka. Let us hope this brings an end to frequent violent crimes in whole of Sri Lanka. The person who came up with this idea deserves all the praise.

Any politician or politician’s family members. No no no. All of them are innocent.
Alex Peramuna Saturday, 13 January 2024 08:39 PM

Old saying. Police know the criminals. Criminals know the police and lawyers.
Lakmal Kahawela Saturday, 13 January 2024 09:50 PM
Add 225 to 42,248. Also another one for acting IGP
Sri Lankan Saturday, 13 January 2024 10:55 PM
Don't play number games. Act on need. Some police stations arrest incident civilians to show the numbers. It's destroyed the credibility of Yukthiya. We can see a huge drop in the crime rate thanks to ongoing operations.
Yukthiya Saturday, 13 January 2024 11:06 PM
This is a joke

If these people turned to selling narcotics within last few years only the politicians are to blame for making living impossible for the poor, get the stolen loot back, bring more job opportunities and training and we can prevent people turning to selling narcotics to feed their families, yukthiya should start from the top downwards, catch all the looters in parliament, bring back the billions of dollars hidden in other countries, alles knows about it
Jude Sunday, 14 January 2024 01:04 AM
How many politicians in that list!!???
Zak Sunday, 14 January 2024 03:19 AM
42000 suspects and probably another 5000 in remand prison to capture less than 1000kg of hard drugs.. what a joke
Ram Sunday, 14 January 2024 05:00 AM
Acting IG is on a Paw Samakarana mission. He will not succeed. Police Commission and the AG will have to initiate action on the SC direction without further delay and that will be the end of his career
Tony Sunday, 14 January 2024 05:13 AM
Why isn't you name there?
Sokrates Sunday, 14 January 2024 08:12 AM
Hopefully that scumbag Tennakoon didn't forget his own name on the list.
Potta Harry Sunday, 14 January 2024 08:21 AM
His name too should feature in the list realistically
Seqi Sunday, 14 January 2024 08:26 AM
Surely this is just normal practice.
Karupa Sunday, 14 January 2024 08:29 AM
Next start by enforcing law in the road. See how many drivers are driving illegaly and dangerously. i think there are more deaths by road traffic accidents than drugs itself.
ERAN Wicks Sunday, 14 January 2024 08:59 AM
Biggest crooks are at Havelock city. Yukthiya operation should be taken to Havelock city.
Sambo Sunday, 14 January 2024 09:14 AM
The only thing he did was over crowded prisons and created chaos at re habitation camps.
Can we make IGP permanent now? Sunday, 14 January 2024 09:41 AM
If this is the achievement of Acting IGP, what more can you ask? Lawyers cannot complain now, as they have 42,248 clients. What more do they want now? This man inspired the entire department to function at their best! He salvaged his name. Will the Judiciary be able to punish all these criminals?
A concerned citizen Sunday, 14 January 2024 11:42 AM
Naming a person as a suspect and arresting him is not a difficult job. Placing the evidence available against the suspect and getting him convicted is the IGP must do. Until a person is convicted in a court of law, the suspect should be treated as an innocent person. That is what the UN Charter says. Let us wait and see how many of those arrested would be convicted in a court of law. The Police appear to think just arresting and remanding a suspect is all they have to do.

What about him and the 225

This appears to be a political stunt ahead of the ELECTIONS. REFERENCE PARA THREE OUTLINING IGP'S INSTRUCTIONS! WHAT THE HELL WERE ALL THOSE MENTIONED IN PARA THREE DOING ALL THESE YEARS? MAKES READERS COME TO BELIEVE THE OBVIOUS REASONS.
sam Sunday, 14 January 2024 05:20 PM
Why no action on the SC direction?
Dingiriamma Dewapriya Sunday, 14 January 2024 05:22 PM
A great job - Mr Deshabandu! Hope YUKTHIYA applies to all irrespective of the level and also to politicians and all henchman! Next check past and current politicians and investigate how they became rich in few years!

Mahinda rajapaksa and his immediate family members included?
Buddhist Sunday, 14 January 2024 08:48 PM
Did Deshabandu include his name in the list? He is an accused not only in the Easter Bombing but also in the Aragalaya attack.
Try not to hide the facts Sunday, 14 January 2024 11:19 PM
Are you sure that there are no drug lords in parliament Mr Deshabandu?
Gt Sunday, 14 January 2024 11:31 PM
Wonder how many people who came to the streets during aragalaya were arrested, its easy to plant drugs or weapons and detain people they simply don't like, can't trust the police especially when acting igp is criminal
Sheni mutu Monday, 15 January 2024 06:31 AM
Wonder what we were doing all these years with these lists. Having the information and not taking action is also a crime.
No Power supply, so they are in the dark Monday, 15 January 2024 04:44 PM
The answer is simple. These criminals were under the protection of god fathers in power. Now the power is gone, so the police is free to function!
CitizenP Monday, 15 January 2024 07:44 AM
Not a single politician is involved in illegal activities. And this shows that our politicians are the best in the world...
