Colombo, Nov 1. (Daily Mirror) - Conducting tuition classes targeting the 2025 GCE Advanced Level (A/L) Examinations will be prohibited from midnight of November 4, the Department of Examinations said.

The Examinations Department said organising, conducting subject-oriented lectures, seminars or classes, printing exam-oriented papers, distribution and giving publicity via electronic media, posters and banners, providing similar questions etc. will be prohibited.

It said if a person or an institution violates the regulation, they will be convicted under the Examinations Act.

Is this prohibition for ever or for short period? The teachers who are officially teaching A/L classes should be prohibited from conducting tuition classes. I would rather prefer the tuition should be prohibited for children from grade-1 to grade-5. These kids are mentally tortured during their playful years. Tuition could be allowed from grade-6 to G.C.E (O/L) to provide a good basic foundation. Even for these tuition classes the teacher who teach them at school should not be allowed to give tuition. I mean unemployed graduates could do this job.

Future of education will be online anyway other than for primary school. Tuition will be not needed anymore with AI. Any student with some brain can use AI to learn and improve in areas where he or she needs support. Also majority of the staff at examination departments can be laid off as they will be not needed anymore in most cases. Also teachers for paper marking will not be needed as well once AI develops to a certain level. Good luck

I am more or less less informed of AI. I think it will do the job of non-creative thinking. I is going to replace what the tuition teachers are doing now. I may be wrong and is only just beginning to explore. How many years it took for internet to reach today's stage. I almost grew up with main frames with punch cards, the small LP and now I don't know what ?? it was almost around 35 yrs or so??

Mass scale Private tuition class and large scale tuition should be completely prohibited . Most of those tuition institutions violate educational and social norms , only focus on the monitory gains while putting younger generation and their parents on rat race .

I think it is a good initiative! SL is getting too much! BAdula G became rich through poor children money and then became rich through stolen public money as a parliamentarian! Children will not develop their free thinking throgh these classes! They will be like parrots to pass exams - let them develop their own skills!

If the teachers do their duty by coaching the students, additional tuition will not be necessary. Creating a fear psychosis, the parents are pushed into arranging tuition in most cases with the same class teachers. The teacher must be able to identify weak areas of students and pay more attention to them. If a student is not doing well, the teacher should take part of the blame. Present day school going children have no life outside studies. They don’t get to rest or play like normal kids which are important activities in their growing ages. Most parents can’t even afford the exorbitant charges demanded by the tuition providers.
