Colombo, Nov. 7 (Daily Mirror) - The President seems to be confused with his new neo-liberal free market ideology and his party’s protectionist industrial policy production economy concept, SJB MP Dr. Harsha de Silva said today.

"The President was like a parish priest preaching bana at a Buddhist temple. Totally confused with his new neo-liberal free market ideology and his party’s protectionist industrial policy production economy concept," Dr. De Silva said.

I do not think Harsha is confused. Our country was bankrupt in 2022, with only 50 million dollars of foreign reserves. With the population going through immense hardship Mr Ranil W, Mr Siriwardena and Dr Weerasinghe brought back the country to the correct path. Sri Lanka had 6.1 billion US dollars reserves in 2022. Now Sri Lanka has 6.1 billion dollars of reserves. No increase in foreign reserves for a year.Sri Lanka has spent extra 2 billion on on car imports and repayment of some loans this year. So, where do we go from here. Sri Lanka has to pay 3-4 Billion USD as repayments for loans from 2027. I will let you do the simple maths. We have 6 billion now but have to pay 3B as repayments from 2027. Sri Lanka has to find a way forward, or go through immense hardship from 2027. The government must come up with policies to improve the exports, and substitution for exports. Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe has already reaped the benefits of the low hanging fruits of tourism and remittances.
