73.45% qualify for A/Ls, 2.34% fail all at O/L exam



Colombo, July 11 (Daily Mirror) - Following the release of the 2024 (2025) G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) Examination results, 2.34% of candidates failed all subjects, while 73.45% of students who sat for the exam qualified for the G.C.E. Advanced Level, Commissioner General of Examinations A.K.S. Indika Kumari Liyanage announced today.

Addressing the media, she revealed that 2.34% of candidates failed all subjects, while a total of 13,392 students achieved outstanding results by securing 'A' passes in all nine subjects representing 4.15% of the total candidates.

Breaking down the results by province, the Southern Province recorded the highest overall pass rate at 75.64%, followed by the Western Province with 74.47%, and the Central Province with 73.91%. The lowest provincial pass rate was recorded in the Northern Province at 69.86%.

  • Southern – 75.64%

  • Eastern – 74.26%
  • Sabaragamuwa – 73.44%
  • Uva – 73.14%
  • Northwestern – 71.47%
  • North Central – 70.24%
  • Northern – 69.86%

In subject-wise performance, 69.07% of students passed Mathematics, 71.06% passed Science, and 73.82% passed English.

  • Christian – 91.49%
  • Islam – 85.45%
  • English – 73.82%

The Commissioner General said these results reflect the overall performance trends of students islandwide, adding that further detailed analysis will be made available in the coming days.
