50,000 ’Ice’ drug users in SL: Survey reveals

Preliminary findings of a national survey on the use of Methamphetamine, commonly referred to as ICE, have found that there are some 50,000 users of the drug in the country, Chairman of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board Shakya Nanayakkara said.

"However, through our samples and findings from the teachers we are engaging with, we have found that 'ice' or Methamphetamine use in schools isn't as prevalent as feared," Nanayakkara said.

"Towards the end of 2022 there was a comparative increase in persons admitted to our rehabilitation centres," he said.

ICE is dangerous for health. Cannabis is a medicinal plant, as Daya Gamage suggested, cannaby cultivation should be permitted to stop consumption of ICE or Drug usage.

I am an ICE user and I appreciated this publicity and openly allowing me to take part in the survey exposing myself and bad addiction to the authority.

The number must be at least 50 times higher. This problem is not any smaller than the fight against the terrorists. The government must deploy the full strength of the military and the police to irradiate this drug menace.
