5,000 in final stage of kidney disease; 300 transplants in a year

Colombo, March 26 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 5,000 patients have been reported in the final stage of kidney disease, while 300 kidney transplants have been carried out in a year, the Health Promotion Bureau said.

Nephrology Specialist Dr. Nalaka Herath urges the public suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure to have their kidneys checked at least once a year.

Medical experts warn that diabetes and high blood pressure are the leading causes of kidney-related illnesses, with many patients only diagnosed at advanced stages due to a lack of early screening.

Early diagnosis and proper management can significantly reduce the risk of kidney failure and improve patients’ quality of life.
