Colombo, April 29 (Daily Mirror) - Health experts in Sri Lanka have raised concern over a rising number of gastritis-related cases, estimating that nearly 25% of patients seeking medical attention are now presenting symptoms of the condition.
Medical professionals say the most common symptoms include abdominal bloating, abdominal pain, indigestion and loss of appetite, which can significantly affect daily routines if left untreated.
Doctors further warn that stress is emerging as a major contributing factor, with individuals under prolonged stress found to be at higher risk of developing gastritis.
Health authorities also advise the public to avoid carbonated drinks, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, noting that such habits can contribute not only to gastritis but also to fatty liver disease.
In addition, specialists highlight risk factors linked to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including high-fat and fried foods, stress, alcohol use, smoking and certain medications.
Medical experts urge those experiencing persistent symptoms to seek early medical consultation to prevent complications and ensure timely treatment.
