1938 toll-free Women’s Helpline receives 2,182 complaints on violence against women



Colombo, Nov. 17 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 2,182 complaints related to violence against women have been reported from November 2024 to October this year through the 1938 toll-free Women’s Helpline operated by the National Committee on Women (NCW) under the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs.

The Ministry said among these, the highest number of complaints were recorded under the category of Domestic Violence, amounting to 1,488 cases.

In addition, 234 complaints related to Cyber Crime were reported, while 7 complaints of Rape were also recorded, the Ministry said.

The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs and the National Committee on Women, with the support of government and non-governmental organisations, have already begun strengthening and promoting the 1938 toll-free Women’s Helpline, which operates 24 hours a day in all three languages.
