176,527 qualify for university with 62.64% pass rate



Colombo, April 1 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 176,527 candidates, including 146,405 school applicants and 30,122 private applicants, have qualified to apply for university admission at the 2025 General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination, achieving an overall pass rate of 62.64%.

According to the Sri Lanka Department of Examinations, the results were officially released on March 31, 2026, marking a significant milestone for thousands of students across the country awaiting their academic progression.

The examination saw a total of 281,810 candidates sitting for the exam, highlighting a strong participation rate from both school and private sectors. Education authorities note that the performance reflects a stable outcome compared to previous years, with a considerable number of students becoming eligible for higher education opportunities.

Meanwhile, candidates have been advised to access their results through official online platforms, while further steps including re-scrutiny applications and university admission processes are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
