The Private bus strike on 138 bus route which was launched this morning was called off, LPBOA Chairman Gamunu Wijerathne said.

This strike was due to a dispute with the traffic police over a license of a driver.

The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA) Chairman said that the strike was called off after the police agreed to issue a spot fine slip to the driver in question on charges of dangerous driving. (Ajith Siriwardana)

At least now the reason behind the strike has been revealed. Would that the union itself and other bodies deal with the blatant reckless driving on the part of many bus drivers.

So the driver decides whether the police need to issue court summons or spot fine. Very good example, keep it up traffic police.

The ruthless public transport service ( Bus & 3Wheeler) is the most fearsome, annoying Mafia operation in this country and there is no one to discipline this madness

Actually not the driver, the Gemunu the Mafia

It is a shame the traffic police look at the front lights only, in 90% of the buses and heavy vehicles that travels in the night go with out any lights at the rear. I wonder why the traffic cops cannot use there walky talky, to catch these errant drivers. Over to you the D.I.G traffic division

What a disgrace for the honest cop who merely did his duty!! Can we ever expect him to do his job properly ever again, after this??? Surely a politikka must have intervened!

Gemunu himself once described these drivers as maniacs. Now he has given an open invitation to these drivers to drive as they please and the union will bail them out or hold the public to ransom.

Dont forget, Gamunu got the nominations for the parlimentary elections from UNP.

The police MUST be saved immediately from unwanted fingering by outsiders!!!!!!! Sadly, at the moment, they're in the situation of a 'girayata ahuwechchi puwak kalla'.

This is a disgrace to the traffic police! 138 route buses are driven by kudu karays. They have no mercy for pedestrians, traffic lights and for other vehicles on the road. Many time I have witnessed traffic police ignoring 138 buses offenses. It is time that the IGP took action against cops who ignore buses violating road rules.
