One hundred and thirty two schools in the Western province have been temporarily closed due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions, Western Province acting chief Minister Upali Kodikara said.
These comprise 115 schools in the Matugama education division of the Kalutara district, 10 schools in the Kalutara division and one school in Horana division and six schools in the Hanwella division.
At least 22 people were killed and about 27,243 persons from about 7,500 families displaced by the heavy rains that lashed the Kalutara district of the Western province during the past few days.
Mr. Kodikara said the schools would be reopened once the weather condition improved.(Chathuranga Pradeep and Ajith Siriwardana)
