A total of 132 people from 32 families have been affected so far due to the prevailing showery conditions experienced in the country, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.
Accordingly, people in the Bulathsinhala Divisional Secretariat division in the Kalutara district and the Ratnapura, Ayagama, Kiriella and Godakawela Divisional Secretariat divisions of the Ratnapura district have been affected by disasters.
However, no deaths or injuries have been reported so far. Only nine houses were partially damaged due to earth-cutting failures, heavy rains and falling trees.
Meanwhile, the Forecasting Division of the National Meteorological Centre said the prevailing showery conditions are expected to continue further in the South-Western part of the island.
Showers or thundershowers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
Heavy showers above 50mm can be expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Galle, Matara, and Puttalam districts.
Strong winds up to 45 kmph can be expected at times on the western slopes of the central hills, in the Northern, North-Central and North-Western Provinces and in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
