Police Chief N. K.Ilangakoon said today that the delay in solving the Kahawatte double-murder was due to lack of eyewitnesses. Addressing the media the IGP stated that the Police had to conduct investigations based on forensic evidence and this resulted in the delay in apprehending the suspects.

The Officer –In- Charge of the Kolonnawa Police station, IP S. Samaranayake has been transferred to the field Police headquarters with immediate effect. Police spokesman Ajith Rohana told the Daily Mirror that the transfer had no connection with the attempted abduction of the Chairman of the Kolonnawa during the weekend.
