10 factories caught making Madana Modaka illegally

Colombo, Nov. 26 (Daily Mirror) -The Ayurvedic Medicines Regulatory Authority (NAMR) says that about 10 places in the country are making Madana Modaka illegally. These factories use too much hemp, more than what is allowed by law.

Officials say these places misuse the annual registration certificate they get from the Ayurvedic Department. They pretend to follow the correct rules but secretly make the medicine in the wrong way.

NAMR says that real Madana Modaka must be made exactly according to the approved recipe, and an Ayurvedic Health Medical Officer must be present during production. But many manufacturers do not follow this rule and still sell the illegally made products.

Some of these products are also wrongly promoted as something that increases sexual desire.

Scientific tests have proved that properly made Madana Modaka is not intoxicating and is mainly used to treat indigestion in young children.

The authority also says that having legally made Madana Modaka is not a crime, and even the police cannot arrest anyone for possessing it.

NAMR says it will take strict action soon, including conducting raids on places that make Madana Modaka illegally.
