Roshen, Priyanjan light up Super Fours with centuries

Roshen smashes century

A massive 202-run fifth wicket partnership between Roshen Silva and Dasun Shanaka propelled Team Galle to a formidable 321 for six on day one in their Super Four Provincial Tournament match against Team Colombo which began at the Hambantota International Cricket Stadium.

Galle were in a deep trouble after electing bat first losing first four wickets for mere 22 runs, but Silva and Shanaka steadied the innings with a magnificent batting effort. Silva remained unbeaten on146 with ten boundaries while skipper Shanaka fell five runs short of the century when off-spinner Dilruwan Perera had him bowled through the gates. His innings had eight boundaries.  Chathuranga de Silva who joined Silva then added further 97 runs for the sixth wicket before Chathuranga became Dilruwan Perera’s second victim. All-rounder Chathuranga made a brisk 47 off 63 with three sixes ad two boundaries.

It was a massive respite for the Galle side who were 10 for 3 at the sixth over of the match. Right arm seamer Kaveesha Anjula who made the early damage and off-spinner Dilruwan Perera picked up 2 wickets each for Colombo.

Priyanjan punishes Team Kandy

Ashan Priyanjan was at his blistering best as he smashed an unbeaten 151 as Team Dambulla scored a massive 382 for the loss of nine wickets on day one in their Super Four Provincial Match against Team Kandy began at Katunayake.

After electing to bat first, team Dambulla were in a spot of bother early on losing two quick wickets, but recovered well to reach a commanding score at stumps. Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne (71) and Manoj Sarathchandra hit half centuries to help the total but it Priyanjan who stood out with his magnificent effort. His unbeaten 151 had 17 boundaries and came off 231 deliveries. Karunaratne hit eight boundaries in his 108 ball innings while Sarathchandra scored his 57 off just 72 deliveries with nine boundaries. Ishan Jayaratne also made a quick-fire 35 off 25 balls with six fours while Sachithra Senanayake remained unbeaten on 29.

Paceman Kasun Rajitha was the pick of the bowler claiming three wickets for 59 runs while Lahiru Kumara, Chamika Karunaratne, Prabath Jayasuriya and Jeevan Mendis claimed one wicket each.
