Veteran Sanath Jayasuriya failed to score but his club Bloomfield managed to beat Ragama CC by 15 runs in the Premier Limited Over tournament Tier A match played at Bloomfield Grounds in Colombo today.
The 41 year old cricket star turned politician who is now a government member of parliament did not do much good for his widely publicized cause to secure a place in Sri Lanka’s squad for next year’s World Cup when he lasted just three balls before being adjudged lbw to medium pacer Kaushalya Weeraratne in the fifth ball of the first over of the Bloomfield innings.
However Sri Lanka player Chamara Silva smashed an unbeaten 81 in 98 balls with one six and five boundaries to guide the home side to victory on Duckworth Lewis method, ably aided by Sri Lanka team discard Chinthaka Jayasinghe who blasted seven sixes and three fours in making a hurricane 94 off 86 balls. Silva and Jayasinghe added 148 for the sixth wicket before Jayasinghe was dismissed, but Silva and Sanjaya Gangodawila ensured Bloomfield victory when they reached 267 for 6 in 46.1 overs in reply to 285 for nine made by Ragama.
Opener Ian Daniel who clobbered 99 in 106 balls with three sixes and six boundaries put on 140 for the second wicket with Lahiru Thirimanne who made 78 in 105 balls with six fours to lay the foundation for Ragama’s challenging total.
Jayasuriya captured 1 for 37 in nine overs with his left arm spin.
Ragama CC 285 for 9 (Michael Vandort 20, Ian Daniel 99, Lahiru Thirimanne 78, Indika de Saram 10, Malinga Bandara 28, Suraj Randiv 3 for 68)
Bloomfield 267 for 6 in 46.1 overs (Dilshan Munaweera 30, Saman Jayantha 10, Chamara Silva 81 n.o., Chinthaka Jayasinghe 94, Sanjaya Gangodawila 24 n.o., Kaushalya Weeraratne 3 for 43, Madura Lakmal 2 for 48)

But Sanath's replacement is not good either.
After facing 24 balls, Tharanga scored only one run for NCC against CCC. He wasted 4 overs. which is 8% of the total match. At that rate total could have been 12.5 runs only.
No one speaks about Mahela failing to score. He score only 9 runs after facing 21 balls and had to be in the losing side. When he came to Australia, he spoke big. But scored very few runs. Thanks to good fortune and Duck Worth Lewis SL managed to beat aussies. But when Sanath was in good form SL comprehensively beat Aussies. Including Saanth in the team would not be a burden for sure. I look forward to see him playing in the world cup.

The great cricketer who has done yeoman service to Mother Lanka Cricketwise should have retired with dignity; some crook dragged him to politics. Sin.

Mr. Cricket seems to be a spokesperson for the government in promoting Sanath to be included in the team for the World Cup. If he is a real "patriot" who loves the country instead of individuals, he would never have put this comment in public. I wonder if there is at least one individual with a backbone in the selection committee to prevent the disaster of including Uncle MP in the squad notwithstanding the Presidential influence.

Mr. Cricket,
Are you mentally retarded? Sanath and Vaaz should go and grow 'pathola' now not play cricket in any form. Maybe play for the 'home for the aged'. There are so many talented players in SL we don't need to go for these vintage, greedy players anymore who doesn't have the brains to realize that they are no longer able to compete at this level. This is selfishness at its best.

Here's my 15:
1.Mahela Jayawardena
2.Tillekaratne Dilshan
3.Kumar Sangakkara
4.Upul Tharanga
5.Thilina Kandamby
6.Angelo Mathews
7.Chaminda Vaas
8.Nuwan Kulasekera
9.Lasith Malinga
10.Muttiah Muralitharan
11.Ajantha Mendis
12. Chamara Kapugedara (12th man for the whole world cup/specialist batsman)
13.Thilan Samaraweera (reserve specialist batsman)
14.Sanath Jayasuriya (reserve specialist on all departments)
15.Dilhara Fernando (reserve specialist fast bowler)
I want to select Jeewan Mendis (for Sanath Jayasuriya but I'm going for experience), Suraj Randiv, Rangana Herath. But I believe the selected ones are better. Also there's enough spinners in the team.

The reason He is still hanging on to cricket, is course he is a greedy man ,this way he gets more money cricket/and politics.
He was so eager to join polities now why not do something for the people of your electorate.
I bet he has never ever been to any parliamentary settings.

don't agree at all. I have posted my` team in the bottom.
*** If mahela does not open might as well just drop him because he does crap all in the middle ..... mahela likes to go for his shots that's why he has done well at the top .... when he plays in the middle order he can't do that because he has to play the anchor role and what usually happens is that he will try to be defensive and get out to a soft dismissal .... i have seen it happen time after time with him .... what a waste he's a genuine match winner at the top of the order

Of course he is a legend, and was great. We loved the way he clobbered the ball, especially in the first 15 overs with Kalu and later with others. He used to excel and was instrumental in winning us many a match. But the point is, can he deliver now? Is he fit enough? We want the best and the fittest 15 who can win us the cup and nothing less.

Mr Cricket has no idea of what is going on in the international cricket scene these days. Jayasuriya is a legend but he was overlooked by selectors due to poor form. They even tried him out in the middle order. His inclusion in last T20 world cup cost us a place in the finals. Our ODI team has done well at recent times and do not need him any more.

Hon Jayasooriya dont take away our chance of winning the world cup. Dont be so greedy for money. I know who you are from your child hood. Please retire from cricket like a gentlemen with pride for great work in cricket. You can now earn from politics .please proceed in that direction. Chamara silva is a better choice, dont prevent their chances. Moreover no body likes you in the team, so you will be demotivating factor. Menna wenda get out please

If Sanath needs to be included, why cant the old SL team who played the WC in 1996 re-included. People don't realize the fact, everything has its limits even players with high reputation & great skills.... So Sanath better seat in the Parliament & enjoy his rest of the life there.....

On top of that, there are bunch of idiots around here to recommend Sanath to remain in Cricket.
Sanath you were a Hero. It is high time for you to bow down now and remain with us as a Hero. We know your are greedy, but don't be too greedy.

Sanath is a legend. He doesn't need to perform in matches of this level to get selected. He is always a star at international level. He shouldn't be playing in these tournaments which are below his level. He should be an automatic choice for the national team. He is a genuine performer and a match winner.
