Heavy rains expected to lash across the country today: Met dept.



Due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of the country, there could be heavy showers exceeding 150mm throughout the country today, the Metrology Department said.

They said that an amber-colored (advisory or be prepared) warning was issued covering the whole island.

As a result, heavy downpour in the range of 150mm is expected in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, Uva, and Northern provinces, and heavy rains exceeding 100 mm is forecast elsewhere.

There would be showers or thundershowers in the Northern, Western, and Northwestern provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts during the morning. 

It is also forecast that there would be thundershowers over most parts of the country during the afternoon or night. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
