Acting IGP ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to immediately launch an investigation into the statement made by former Deputy Minister Vinyagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman, Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratne said.

He said the CID will launch a probe over Karuna Amman’s statement which he claimed to have committed crimes when he was in the LTTE.

“When I was a member of the LTTE, I killed some 2000 to 3000 Sri Lankan army personnel in one night at Elephant Pass. I have killed more in Killinochchi. That is certainly higher than the number of lives the coronavirus has claimed in Sri Lanka,” Karuna said addressing a gathering in Navadinveli, Ampara recently.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Tobe honest we must avoid hatred among people who want to inciting disrespect, dishonesty, disharmony, among community. We must live side by side, equally treatment of Tamil, Muslims as well as others. Must open the door of opportunity.

Karuna Amman needs also to be questioned on the massacre of 600 odd Police officers in the east during the period the LTTE engaged in peace talks with the President Premadasa in late 1990. These armed policemen surrendered to the LTTE on the orders of the then Government. Since successive governments have only paid lip service and no action taken to achieve justice in this cruel incident to-date. It is a well known fact that this massacre was carried out by Karuna and his men.

Do not waste State's dwindling resources. Either arrest him or forget it. PM made him the VP of SLFP and offered seat on National list in next parliament. All the top Army Officials and Defence Sec. have not said anything.

Warren Raed Monday, 22 June 2020 11:25 AM

The Act IGP is a good actor. The nation knows that. However, all action and no results always. Ultimately the judiciary will dismiss the case stating having no evidence.

    Jacoob Monday, 22 June 2020 11:30 AM

most certainly. investigation should focus on while the Sinhala race did not kill any LTTE or Civilian , the LTTE killed soldiers in 1000s. Yet , the LTTE lost and soldiers side won. We need to educate the whole world on this rare war tactics...
