This World Cup final was the best of all finals that I have witnessed

Former Sri Lanka World Cup winning Captain Arjuna Ranatunga yesterday claimed that New Zealand and England should have been declared joint champions after the dramatic finish to the 2019 final at Lord’s on Sunday.

He also added that Sri Lanka cannot expect its cricket to improve when their administration is so bad.

“This World Cup final was the best of all finals that I have witnessed. My personal opinion is that both the teams should have been crowned joint champions after the tied game.”
“When it comes to our team, they actually played better than expected but we had not picked a proper side. If we had selected a good team we would have reached the semi-finals.”
“Our young players gradually improved their game but we were left helpless due to our problems in the middle order. Obviously you cannot expect our cricket to improve when the administration is so bad,” the former middle order batsman pointed out.

He further added that: “Today in Sri Lanka cricket is run by people who don’t even have the basic knowledge. Thanks to them about 40 people go to watch the World Cup through SLC money.”

“They don’t provide enough facilities to children in the rural areas and how could you expect to win a World Cup without that? The government should take the responsibility for this and cricket today is run by gamblers who prioritise money.”
