Post of Opposition Leader UNF to take final decision on Thursday

• Speculations hint Ranil will take up post 
• 60 members propose Sajith Premadasa to post

The UNF parliamentary group will take the final decision on the post of Opposition Leader on Thursday, UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam told a press conference held yesterday. 

He said party seniors and junior MPs were discussing the matter as well as on the shakeup of the party from time to time. “Matters will be sorted out before long,” he said.  Meanwhile, UNP MP Ashu Marasinghe said the advice of Venerable Mahanayake Theras would be sought with regard to party leadership. Earlier, it was reported that Mr. Kariyawasam requested Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to accept incumbent party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as Opposition Leader while some 60 members handed over a letter to the Speaker requesting the appointment of former Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa to the post. However, it is widely speculated that Mr. Premadasa will be appointed to the post.
